Rogers Community Auction and Flea Market, located at 45625 Old State Route 154 in Rogers, has been a staple in the community for 70 years. The market, spanning 250 acres with 16 buildings, has evolved from its humble beginnings on 12 acres with 15 vendors selling produce and small animals. Founded in 1955 by Emmett and Lucille Baer, the market saw significant growth under their son James Baer and is now managed by the third generation of the family.
Ken Baer, a third-generation auctioneer, credits the market’s success to its ability to cater to the community’s needs and desires. Over the years, the market has adapted to offer a wide range of goods, from vintage pottery to fresh produce and baked goods. Its reputation as one of the nation’s best flea markets has been solidified with accolades from Ohio Magazine.
On Fridays, the market comes alive with vendors setting up early in the morning to offer their wares until mid-afternoon. The market also hosts special events like live auctions for small livestock, consignment auctions, and hay and grain auctions. With the market’s vast expanse, visitors can rent mobility scooters for convenience.
To celebrate its 70th anniversary, the Rogers Community Auction and Flea Market is hosting a grand event on July 4. The festivities will include a massive fireworks display and appearances by actors Julie McCullough and Scott Schwartz. An outdoor event area called Backyard LIVE! has been introduced to cater to a younger audience, featuring inflatables, live music, and food trucks. Admission is free for children under 6, with tickets available for purchase for additional attractions.
Connie Hughart, one of the family members overseeing the market’s operations, sees Backyard LIVE! as a way to engage the community and attract new audiences. The market’s commitment to evolving with the times while staying true to its roots has been key to its enduring success.
For those interested in becoming vendors, spaces are available for $26 per day. The market is open year-round on Fridays and remains closed on weekends. With its rich history and continuous growth, the Rogers Community Auction and Flea Market remains a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike.
