Walcott Truckers Jamboree Celebrates 40 Years with Exciting Events

The Walcott Truckers Jamboree, an annual event that originated in 1979 in the parking lot of the Iowa 80 Truckstop, has evolved into a grand three-day celebration attracting over 40,000 truck enthusiasts from across the country. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the event, set to take place from July 11 to July 13 at the Iowa 80 Truckstop, Exit 284 on I-80.

The Iowa 80 Group, the organizer of the jamboree, has planned an array of activities to commemorate this milestone. Attendees can look forward to concerts, carnival games, firework displays, an antique truck exhibition, and a super truck beauty contest, all aimed at honoring and engaging with truck drivers.

Heather DeBaillie, the vice president of marketing for Iowa 80 Group, emphasized the significance of the jamboree in acknowledging the hard work and dedication of truck drivers. The antique truck display and super truck beauty contest offer a unique opportunity for the public to connect with drivers and gain insights into the industry.

One of the highlights of the event is the Trucker Olympics, scheduled to kick off on July 11, where participants can engage in various competitions such as a steering wheel cover ring toss and navigating an obstacle course with a steer tire.

A popular segment making a return this year is the Trucker’s Best Friend Pet Contest, where all pets are welcome to showcase their talents and style. Categories include best trick, owner lookalike, and best dressed, attracting a diverse range of furry participants.

Despite the logistical challenges of hosting over 40,000 attendees at the world’s largest truckstop spanning 220 acres, Iowa 80 Group is dedicated to ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for all participants. The event’s success is attributed to the support from sponsors and vendors who purchase exhibit space, enabling the jamboree to remain a free event for all.

DeBaillie expressed the team’s enthusiasm for organizing the jamboree each year, emphasizing the joy in celebrating and honoring the contributions of truck drivers. The event serves as a platform to showcase the industry’s vibrancy and connect with the community on a personal level.
