Young Pathfinders Unite for Ninth International Camporee in Wyoming

More than 60,000 young people from over 100 countries are preparing to converge at the Cam-Plex Facilities in Gillette, Wyoming, for the Ninth International Pathfinder Camporee. This week-long event, themed “Believe the Promise,” is organized by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America and the Center for Youth Evangelism. The camporee, scheduled for August 5-11, 2024, offers a variety of activities for Pathfinders, a co-ed Adventist youth organization.

The camporee draws inspiration from the biblical story of Moses and his journey to liberate the Israelites. Participants will engage in pin trading, honor patches, marching exhibitions, archery, talent showcases, and more. Each evening, a live musical performance and inspirational messages led by Damian Chandler from Sacramento will uplift the attendees. Pathfinders from all corners of the globe have been eagerly anticipating this event, with some clubs fundraising through various community activities.

One of the focal points of the camporee is community service, with attendees contributing over 10,000 hours to 45 local projects in Gillette. This emphasis on service aligns with the Pathfinders’ Christian values and aims to spread the message of love and compassion through action.

International camporee tickets for this year’s event were quickly sold out, indicating the growing popularity of this gathering. Initially held in Denver, Colorado, the camporee has since grown significantly in attendance, necessitating a change in venue to Gillette, Wyoming. The welcoming spirit of the local community and the excellent facilities in Gillette have made it an ideal location for this global event.

One of the standout service projects planned is the cleaning of graves and veterans’ crosses in the Campbell County Cemetery District. This initiative showcases the Pathfinders’ commitment to making a positive impact on the communities they visit.

According to Ron Whitehead, the executive director for the Center for Youth Evangelism, the camporee is a unique opportunity for Pathfinders worldwide to come together, learn, play, and worship in unity. The overarching goal of the event is to instill a sense of belonging and faith in the attendees, encouraging them to “Believe the Promise.”

Founded in 1946, the Pathfinder Club, with approximately two million members globally, focuses on the holistic development of youth aged 10 to 15. Through a range of activities and programs, Pathfinders aim to nurture mental, physical, and spiritual growth among its members.

As the camporee approaches, the anticipation among Pathfinders and the local community in Gillette continues to grow. The event promises to be a transformative experience, fostering connections, service, and spiritual enrichment among all participants.
