A statue honoring Henry Lewis, the developer of Canton First Monday Trade Days, now stands proudly at the Arbor Entrance of the event in Canton, Texas. Lewis, a visionary figure in the community, served as the mayor of Canton and played a pivotal role in expanding the trade days from five acres to 25.

Described as a man with foresight, Lewis’s daughter, Martha Jane Wallace, fondly remembers her father’s belief in the potential of First Monday Trade Days. His legacy lives on as the statue captures him holding a silver dollar, symbolizing his love for commerce and generosity in giving a silver dollar with every car sale.

Jeff Smith, a close friend of Lewis, reminisced about Lewis’s welcoming nature, always greeting people with open hands.
