Renninger’s Mount Dora Flea Market and Antique Center in Florida is gearing up to host a unique event that combines history, fantasy, and creativity – the Steampunk Industrial Show. Steampunk, a genre that traces its roots back to adaptations of classic literary works by H.G. Wells and Jules Verne in the 1950s and ’60s, has evolved into a celebration of retro-futuristic technologies and Victorian elegance.
John Mondelli, lead vocalist of The Cog is Dead, a steampunk-themed band, highlights the visual appeal of steampunk culture, with its fusion of vintage machinery, high fashion, and intricate designs. Steampunk enthusiasts are drawn to the genre’s reinvention of history and its imaginative exploration of what the future could have looked like in the 19th century.
The Steampunk Industrial Show at Renninger’s is set to feature a diverse range of activities and attractions. From 100 vendors showcasing unique creations made from old gears, springs, and keys to live music, magic shows, and horse and carriage rides, the event promises an immersive experience for attendees.
Attendees can expect to encounter individuals dressed in elaborate costumes, embodying personas from the Victorian era or western wear. The event culminates in a Steampunk Ball, featuring performances by The Cog is Dead and Phantasmagoria, known for their theatrical displays involving firebreathing and stiltwalking.
Renninger’s marketing and special events coordinator, Toni Moody, reveals that the inspiration for the Steampunk Industrial Show came from a steampunk wedding featured on HGTV. Since its inception in 2012, the event has grown in popularity, with bi-annual editions held in October and January.
The success of the Steampunk Industrial Show is evident in the increasing attendance and vendor participation, with last year’s event setting records for both. The diverse range of activities, from the Florida Splendid Teapot Race to the display of rat rods, adds to the eclectic charm of the event.
For those interested in attending, admission and parking for the Steampunk Industrial Show are free, while tickets for the Steampunk Ball are available for $15. With its unique blend of history, fantasy, and creativity, Renninger’s Mount Dora Flea Market promises a weekend filled with steampunk-inspired delights for enthusiasts and curious onlookers alike.
