Portland Flea, known for its eclectic mix of vendors, is gearing up for the 2023 season with markets on both sides of the river. The upcoming season, starting on April 29, will feature booths not only in the Central Eastside but also at The Rooftop Terrace at Ecotrust in Northwest Portland.
Founder Kate Sullivan expressed excitement about expanding to the westside, stating that the new location near Jamison Square will offer a unique experience for families to enjoy the market and relax in the park. The decision to have markets on both sides of the river was a long-envisioned plan that is now coming to fruition.
Last year, Portland Flea transitioned to a weekly event due to popular demand after a successful season with increased footfall following the pandemic restrictions. This year, with markets at two locations, the event will return to its monthly format, hosting vendors every last full weekend of the month.
Aside from the diverse array of crafts and clothing vendors, attendees can look forward to a variety of food options. Renowned chef Romel Bruno will be serving his famous chopped cheese sandwiches at the Southeast location, while other vendors like Deadstock, Match Freak, and Oatly will be offering coffee and espresso drinks at the Northwest site. Straightaway Cocktails will also be present to cater to shoppers.
For those eager to stay updated on the vendors and offerings, Portland Flea’s Instagram account will provide real-time updates throughout the season, which runs until October. The market’s expansion to multiple locations signifies its growing popularity and the increasing demand for unique and locally sourced goods.
Andi Prewitt, the arts and culture editor at Willamette Week, highlighted the impact of Portland Flea on the local community, emphasizing its role in promoting local artisans and small businesses. The market’s ability to bring together a diverse range of vendors and food options reflects the vibrant and creative spirit of Portland’s local scene.
As Portland Flea prepares to kick off its 2023 season, the anticipation is high among both vendors and attendees, eager to explore the offerings at the markets on both sides of the river. With a blend of creativity, culinary delights, and a vibrant atmosphere, the Portland Flea markets promise a unique and engaging experience for all visitors.
