Grand Prairie Police Department’s eight-month investigation led to the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of counterfeit makeup and beauty products worth tens of thousands of dollars. Detective Caleb Haynes confirmed the conclusion of the investigation this month following the arrests of the involved parties. In April, police conducted search operations at three different locations, leading to the confiscation of a significant amount of fake goods.
The seized items included 2,847 counterfeit products valued at $40,797, along with $15,714 in cash, two trailers, and a truck. Among those apprehended were Martin Pacheco Rico, Maria Pacheco, Alma Norma Pacheco, Ruben Ortega Rodriguez, Mayra Pacheco, and Adrian Suarez, all facing charges related to trademark counterfeiting.
A tip-off about the sale of counterfeit cosmetics at Traders Village, a renowned flea market in Grand Prairie, prompted a collaborative investigation between the police and the market authorities. Traders Village has a history of cooperation with law enforcement to combat the sale of fake merchandise.
Speaking on the issue, Jerry Holt, the marketing manager at Traders Village, emphasized the market’s vigilance in monitoring products sold on-site to prevent the circulation of counterfeit goods. The dangers associated with counterfeit cosmetics, lacking FDA approval and quality control, highlight the potential risks consumers face when using such products.
MAC Cosmetics, in response to the incident, expressed concern over the sale of counterfeit products bearing its brand name. The company underlined its commitment to producing high-quality makeup and urged consumers to purchase from authorized retailers to ensure product authenticity. Similarly, Farouk Systems, Inc., the manufacturer of Chi products, acknowledged the global issue of counterfeiting and lauded law enforcement agencies like the Grand Prairie Police Department for their efforts in combating this problem.
