Fender Musical Instruments Corporation has announced the launch of its American Performer Series, a new line of electric guitars and basses that offer a gateway into Fender’s Corona, Calif.-made offerings. This series, previously known as the American Special Series, marks a significant refresh in more than a decade at the $1,099.99 price point. Crafted in Corona, Calif., the American Performer Series sets new standards for performance-grade instruments, providing seamless delivery on stage to allow musicians to focus on their art. This range includes the Jazzmaster, Mustang, and Mustang Bass, priced between $1,099.99 – $1,199.99.
The American Performer Series incorporates new features based on direct feedback from artists, aiming to address performers’ needs. These innovative features include Yosemite pickups, DoubleTap humbucking pickups, ClassicGear tuning machines, special circuitry, enhanced electronics, and unique design elements such as a ’70s style logo and oversized headstocks. These updates combine traditional Fender design with contemporary elements to offer musicians sonic versatility, tonal flexibility, and ease of use across various musical genres.
Artists across genres like rock, alternative, R&B, and indie have already embraced the Fender American Performer Series. Notable musicians such as Fidlar, Tom Misch, Catious Clay, and La Luz are among the early adopters of these instruments, underscoring their versatility and appeal. The series, available from December 4, 2018, in gloss colors and satin finishes, includes models like the Stratocaster, Telecaster, Mustang, Jazzmaster, Precision Bass, Jazz Bass, and Mustang Bass.
Furthermore, Fender has introduced the Flea Jazz Bass Active, its second collaboration with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. This active Jazz Bass, made in the USA, is designed to complement Flea’s on-stage preferences and energetic style. Featuring an offset alder body in Satin Inca Silver and Satin Shell Pink finishes, this bass model boasts a smooth Satin Polyurethane neck finish, 22-fret maple neck, and high-output humbucker with an Aguilar OBP-1 18-volt preamp for superior output.
Flea, known for his advocacy for music education through the Silverlake Conservatory, emphasizes the importance of supporting arts education for children of all backgrounds. The Flea Jazz Bass Active, priced at $1,699, offers a modern, stage-ready instrument that reflects Flea’s dynamic performance style and sound preferences. Flea’s involvement in music education underscores his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians and ensuring access to quality music programs.
