Cooks Flea Market in Winston-Salem to Reopen After Fire

Part of Cooks Flea Market in Winston-Salem, NC, is preparing to reopen this weekend following a fire incident that occurred two weeks ago. The state’s largest indoor flea market faced devastation when a fire broke out on June 5th, engulfing the 35,000-square-foot annex building. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the annex building will remain closed while the main 100,000-square-foot building is set to welcome back shoppers this Saturday.

The fire marshal confirmed the safety of the main building before 3 p.m. on Thursday, allowing preparations for the reopening to proceed. Vendors from the damaged section of the market have been offered alternate temporary spaces to continue their businesses, with some vendors from the main building generously sharing their areas with those affected by the fire. Unfortunately, vendors are still unable to access their goods in the annex building.

Over the past two weeks, dedicated crews and contractors have tirelessly worked to repair the smoke damage in the main building, ensuring it is ready for business on Saturday. Cooks Flea Market representatives expressed gratitude for the swift response of first responders in extinguishing the fire and eagerly anticipate the reopening this weekend.

Lincoln Hoffman, the Director of Field Operations for Cooks Flea Market, emphasized the significance of reopening promptly to support vendors in resuming their livelihoods. Vendors will begin setting up their stalls on Friday in preparation for the market’s official reopening at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
