Burton Lee Doggett III, a resident of Ladysmith, VA, and Kill Devil Hills, N.C., embarked on his final journey on February 1st, 2017. Born to the late Jean B. Doggett and Lt. Cmdr. USN Burton Lee Doggett Jr., he leaves behind his wife, Libby Jean Doggett, his cherished dogs, Ginny and Socks, a brother, David, several nieces and nephews, and a circle of close friends. Burt’s passion for the sea was evident throughout his life, despite managing The Virginia Bazaar for 17 years. His heart belonged to the water, having traversed the globe from Dubai to Singapore as a commercial fisherman and merchant marine. Burt’s love for adventure, travel, and fishing defined his essence.
Expressing his departure in a poetic manner, Burt’s favorite hobby, fishing, became the metaphor for his transition. The poem he chose encapsulates his spirit, depicting a serene image of sailing into the unknown fishing hole with the Master of the sea.
