After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Berwick Antique & Collectables Fair is making a comeback for its fifth annual event. The fair, set for Sunday, October 9, will feature over 30 stallholders showcasing a diverse array of antique goods, including furniture, crockery, and knick-knacks. Visitors can also avail valuations by David Freeman for a nominal fee of $5.
The event, hosted at the Berwick Leisure Centre, aims to raise funds for Riding for the Disabled’s Doveton branch at Myuna Farm. For Coosje Dubach, one of the fair organizers, this cause holds special significance as she has witnessed the positive impact on individuals benefiting from equine activities over the years.
Riding for the Disabled Victoria has been providing therapeutic horse riding experiences for individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges for five decades. Mrs. Dubach, who has been involved with the organization for twenty years, emphasized the profound moments of connection and progress that occur between the riders and the horses.
She recounted a touching story of an autistic girl who found her voice through interactions with the horses, highlighting the transformative power of these interactions. With the challenges posed by the pandemic, fundraising efforts for organizations like Riding for the Disabled have been severely impacted.
The antique fair serves as a crucial fundraising platform, with Mrs. Dubach expressing hope that the event will help rejuvenate support for the organization’s initiatives. She emphasized the significance of the fair as a key fundraising event and its past success in supporting Riding for the Disabled’s programs.
The fair not only offers a platform for antique enthusiasts to explore unique finds but also serves as a beacon of hope for organizations like Riding for the Disabled, striving to continue their valuable work amidst challenging times. Mrs. Dubach’s dedication to the cause underscores the importance of community support in sustaining initiatives that bring joy and enrichment to individuals facing various challenges.
As the Berwick Antique & Collectables Fair gears up for its fifth edition, the anticipation is high not just for the array of treasures awaiting visitors but also for the positive impact it can have on the lives of those benefiting from the proceeds. The event symbolizes resilience, community spirit, and the enduring value of supporting organizations dedicated to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals.
