Jesus Federico Varela, a beloved resident of San Jose, passed away in Sacramento, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and humor. Born in Jerome, Arizona, Jesus was the second of eight children to Jesus and Cruz Varela. The Varela family had deep roots in San Francisco before Jesus moved to San Jose in 1971 to pursue a career at Langendorf Bakery. His dedication led to a proud membership in the Bakers Local Union #24 for over three decades.
After retiring, Jesus found joy working part-time at various jobs, including his recent role at West Wind Capitol Flea Market in San Jose. Interacting with colleagues and friends at the flea market brought him immense happiness. Jesus’s cheerful demeanor, love for storytelling, and laughter endeared him to many.
Jesus’s passing left a void in the lives of his loved ones, including his sister Gloria Breaux and his four children: Penny Sands, Valerie Perez, Gail Weathers, and Jesus M. Varela. His memory lives on through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a source of pride and joy for him. The loss of his wife, Mary Beatrice Varela, and partner, Carolyn Guzman, preceded his own passing.
Friends and family gathered to pay their respects at Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel in San Jose, where a heartfelt memorial service was held. The community came together to honor Jesus’s life, sharing memories and condolences during the visitation and memorial events.
