In Wilmington, Ohio, a lifelong dream became a reality for Grove City resident Michael Moore on October 30. That day marked the grand opening of Impact Comics and Collectibles, located at 3937 Broadway, Suite C, in Grove City’s Town Center. Moore, a devoted comic book enthusiast, had harbored ambitions of owning a comic book shop for years. The inception of Impact Comics stemmed from a booth he and his brother, Chris, operated at the Caesar Creek Flea Market and various conventions like Ohio Comic Con.
Impact Comics isn’t just a haven for comic book aficionados; it houses a plethora of toys, collectibles, and memorabilia featuring iconic characters like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and more. The store receives fresh comic book issues every Wednesday, attracting both children seeking toys and adults in pursuit of the latest comics. Notably, Impact Comics boasts exclusive partnerships with six artists, offering original artwork for sale, with most pieces personally autographed.
Chris Moore, one of the artists featured at Impact Comics and Michael’s brother, shared his passion for the venture, emphasizing its significance to him. David Moore, the brothers’ father, although not an avid comic reader, has actively participated in the store’s operations, gaining insights into the world of comics and collectibles.
Michael Moore acknowledged the surge in popularity of “nerd culture” in recent years, attributing it to the success of comic-based movies and TV shows. He recognized the thriving market for such merchandise and entertainment, particularly in Grove City, where he chose to establish Impact Comics as a hub for enthusiasts in the community.
Beyond comics and collectibles, Impact Comics aims to be a social hub, hosting stand-up comedy shows, card and video game tournaments, and movie screenings. Moore envisions the store as a welcoming space where customers can connect over shared interests and forge friendships.
Given his family’s military background, Moore extends discounts to veterans as a token of appreciation for their service. Impact Comics and Collectibles operates from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and extends its hours until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, catering to a diverse clientele seeking a unique and immersive comic book experience.
As the comic book industry continues to evolve and captivate audiences worldwide, ventures like Impact Comics play a vital role in cultivating a sense of community and camaraderie among fans. Michael Moore’s dedication to his passion has not only realized his long-held dream but has also created a space where individuals can immerse themselves in the fantastical worlds of their favorite superheroes and characters.
